Gestalt Psychotherapy

Gestalt is german for whole and is named appropriately as it is a sensitive approach that attends to the whole of our experience.  It focuses upon the individual's complete experience in the present moment, inclusive of their mind, body, the environmental and social contexts of a person's life, and the adjustments and responses that people make as a result of their overall situation.

A relational form of therapy, meaning that in gestalt therapy there is special attention paid to the relationship between the therapist and client, as this relationship is both the base and center of the therapeutic work and healing. As such a gestalt therapist aims to ensure that they are attuned and present with you and pays attention to the co-created elements of the relationship.

The emphasis of the therapy is not only about talking but about being in touch with what is being experienced both physically and mentally in the here and now. There is support to bring curiosity to explore your experience in a non judgmental way and through this shared process a deeper understanding and ability to express our authentic self emerges. This frees you to both better understand your way of being in the world and to appreciate some of the strategies or approaches that you may have adopted and the circumstances in which this arose. From this place of clarity and awareness it is possible to explore and experiment with other ways of being that might better serve you now.
